The National Examinations Council (NECO) has expanded its accreditation of schools outside Nigeria, granting more institutions in Equatorial Guinea approval to conduct its Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
This development is part of NECO’s broader strategy to position itself as a key player in educational assessment across Africa and beyond. The newly accredited schools, located in Bata, the largest city in Equatorial Guinea, have met NECO’s stringent requirements for conducting standardized examinations.
The accreditation team assessed various school facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and examination halls, to ensure compliance with NECO’s standards.
Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NECO, emphasized that this expansion aligns with the council’s vision of offering quality assessment services beyond Nigeria’s borders.
“The accreditation of additional foreign schools is a testament to NECO’s commitment to providing quality education and assessment beyond the shores of Nigeria,” he stated.
NECO’s examinations are now recognized in multiple countries, including Benin Republic, Niger Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Equatorial Guinea, and even the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
By increasing its footprint in foreign countries, NECO is not only enhancing educational opportunities for Nigerian students abroad but also positioning itself as a leading examination body on the continent.
This latest accreditation marks another step in NECO’s efforts to promote standardization and accessibility in education, reinforcing its role as a bridge for students seeking internationally recognized qualifications.
