The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has unveiled plans to implement computer-based examinations beginning in 2026. This move marks a significant step in its digital transformation efforts, aiming to enhance the credibility, efficiency, and security of its examination procedures.
Speaking at the board’s headquarters in Benin on Thursday, NABTEB’s newly appointed Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed-Aminu Mohammed, emphasized the importance of leveraging technology to improve the integrity of technical and business education assessments.
“The digitisation of the examination would improve the conduct of examinations because the credibility, integrity, and efficiency of our examination processes constitute the bedrock of our existence as an examination body. Any compromise in these areas undermines our fundamental purpose and threatens the value of the certificates we issue.
“We will accelerate the digitisation of our examination processes, from registration to result processing and certificate issuance. This will minimise human errors, reduce processing time, and enhance the overall efficiency of our operations.” Mohammed stated.
Beyond exam digitization, Mohammed pledged to prioritize staff welfare, capacity building, and a conducive working environment. He also highlighted his commitment to aligning NABTEB’s initiatives with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes technical education as a driver of national development.
The announcement was met with optimism by senior NABTEB officials. The board’s Director of Special Duties, Olugbenga Ojogbede, expressed confidence in Mohammed’s leadership, describing his appointment as “timely” and his vision as essential to fostering a fair and credible examination system.
Additionally, the new registrar outlined plans to explore grants for technical and vocational education while ensuring that hardworking staff receive due recognition and career advancement opportunities.
With these reforms, NABTEB is poised to modernize its examination process, reinforcing the value of its certificates and positioning technical education as a key pillar of Nigeria’s economic growth.
