Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has extended the curfew in Ilobu and Ifon communities from 6 PM to 6 AM following fresh communal clashes.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the renewed crisis, the governor also ordered heightened security surveillance by the Nigerian Army, Police, and Civil Defence Corps to restore peace and prevent further unrest.
Reports indicate that a gunman attack on Ilobu late Thursday night left one person feared dead, with several others injured and houses set ablaze.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, a curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM has been reimposed on the two conflict-ridden communities.
“His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has expressed unhappiness and dissatisfaction with the breakout of fresh communal crises in Ilobu and Ifon.
“To this end, the Governor has directed that the initial 10 pm to 4 am curfew now be extended to 6 pm to 6 am, effective today, Friday, March 21, 2025, until further notice.
“Mr. Governor has equally directed that the joint security team comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps continue to maintain their usual 24-hour surveillance to ensure zero tolerance for any act of lawlessness.”
The Governor also ordered a stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, March 22, 2025, to address the ongoing conflict. The meeting will include the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye, the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, and other key representatives from both communities.
He also issued a stern warning that anyone found aiding or fueling the crisis would face severe consequences.
