The Arewa youths for peace and security has called on the minister of police affairs as well as the senate and house committees on police affairs to urgently investigate an alleged rumour trending on why the IGP Egbetokun transferred AIG Hussaini Gumel erstwhile police Zone 7 assistant inspector general of police. Salihu Dantata Mahmud the secretary general of Aypas made this observation in Abuja.
It was alleged that AIG Hussaini Gumel merely cracked a joke by expressing his views on the imposition of state of emergency in Rivers state by saying that in his own candid opinion it was wrong while with some colleagues among who later went to tell the IGP and without ascertaining the facts as alleged,the IGP immediately changed the AIG. Whatever the situation is,it is a bad precedence and we call for investigation of the matter.
We can vividly recall the likes of them major general ishola Williams who inspire of being a member of the Armed forces ruling council criticised Ibrahim Babangida in the annulment of June 12 but still stayed till Abacha regime so what is happening under democracy that people are suppose to express their views freely? Agreed that as regimented officers they have limitations but the AIG did not say it in public.
