In a proactive step towards enhancing battlefield effectiveness, the Nigerian Army’s Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) has emphasized the integration of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and robotics in military operations.
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Department of Research and Development In-House Study Period held at the TRADOC Headquarters Auditorium in Minna, the Commander of TRADOC, Major General Kevin Aligbe, underscored the importance of leveraging technology to secure victories in modern warfare. The two-day event, which began on April 23, aims to build capacity and broaden the horizons of officers and soldiers on contemporary research and development (R&D) issues.
In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, TRADOC, Major General Aligbe lauded the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for providing the resources and support required for the initiative. “We expect this study period to bring forth new ideas that will shape military operations, particularly in modern battlefield scenarios,” he said. “The Nigerian Army must leverage emerging technologies to enhance our operational effectiveness and stay ahead in the ever-evolving landscape of modern warfare.”
The event’s theme, “Building Capacity for Research and Development Initiative for Military Operations Within a Multi-Agency Environment,” aligns with the COAS’s Command Philosophy, reinforcing a commitment to innovation and strategic development.
Major General Aminu Chinade, Chief of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (CRDT&E) TRADOC, emphasized the transformative impact of technology globally. Represented by Brigadier General Martins Eteng, Director of Research and Development, Chinade described the study period as a critical milestone for fostering a culture of continuous learning within the Nigerian Army.
“We are at the threshold of a new era where technology is redefining industrialization and revolutionizing the way people live and work,” he noted.
