Peter Obi has raised alarm over the recurring technical failures in Nigeria’s public institutions, describing the recent JAMB result glitches as a potential national crisis.
Reacting to JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede’s admission that over 379,000 candidates were affected, Obi praised the rare accountability but warned that such failures, especially in critical sectors like education, carry devastating consequences and must no longer be tolerated.
“I recently watched the heartfelt press conference delivered by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, in which he acknowledged that technical glitches had affected the recently released JAMB results, impacting 379,997 candidates.
“His open admission of fault and the expression of deep remorse stand out as a rare but commendable display of accountability in our public institutions.
“But it raises a very concerning issue on glitches and the grave havoc it’s creating in our country, even in critical institutions like JAMB,” the statement reads.
He warned that beyond technical failures, the emotional and psychological trauma inflicted on students and their families—including reports of severe distress and even deaths—highlighted the urgent need for reform. “The integrity of examination processes and the reliability of public institutions are not optional; they are foundational to any nation’s progress,” he said.
Obi called on JAMB and other critical government bodies to implement strict quality assurance mechanisms, ensure robust technical infrastructure, and maintain open communication with the public to prevent similar failures in the future.
“There must be no room for further glitches—not in JAMB, not in any arm of government. The cost of repeated failure is simply too high,” he warned.
