Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, has received full accreditation for 18 of its academic programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC), reaffirming its position as a top-ranking state university in Nigeria.
The accreditation, which followed a rigorous evaluation exercise conducted by the NUC in October and November 2024, was officially communicated to the university in a letter dated April 30, 2025.
The letter, signed by Abraham Chundusu, Acting Director of Accreditation, on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, confirmed that the affected programmes met the required quality benchmarks for full accreditation.
Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Babatola Ayodele, hailed the news as a “dream come true and a product of tireless efforts by the academic and administrative staff of the University. The university is always better positioned to meet the educational needs of Nigerian youth in cutting-edge and relevant fields of study,” he said.
The accredited programmes span diverse academic fields, including Administration (with M.Sc. Business Administration, Master of Personnel Management, M.Sc. Finance, Master of Public Administration, and MBA), Arts (Arabic Studies, Islamic Studies, Philosophy), and Education (including Christian Religious Studies and multiple technology-focused education disciplines such as Building and Woodwork, Electrical and Electronic, and Metal and Auto Mechanic Technology Education). Programmes in Engineering (Civil, Electrical and Electronic, and Computer Engineering), Law, Geology, and Psychology were also accredited.
In his remarks, Professor Ayodele praised the unwavering support of key stakeholders in EKSU’s journey to excellence. He acknowledged the contributions of Ekiti State Governor and University Visitor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, Chancellor Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, and Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman, Professor Akin Oyebode, whose leadership he described as instrumental in propelling the institution forward.
“The development also reaffirms EKSU’s growing reputation as the best state university in Nigeria according to the Times Higher Education 2025 universities ranking,” the VC added.
The university’s growing reputation received further endorsement earlier in 2025, when it was ranked as the best state university in Nigeria by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
