Nigerian actress Mercy Aigbe has publicly expressed remorse over the strict parenting approach she employed while raising her daughter, Michelle. Speaking at a recent film premiere in Lagos, the 47-year-old actress revealed that she recently sent an apology message to Michelle, acknowledging the harshness of her upbringing methods.
“Three days ago, I had to send her an apology text,” Mercy shared during a press interview. “I told her, ‘I’m sorry. You might think the upbringing I gave you was hard.’ And yes, it was. I won’t lie it was harsh. But I raised a vessel for God.”
Mercy recounted a poignant memory that highlighted the impact of her disciplinary methods. “One day I called her and she didn’t pick up. I had to call her friend, who asked her to call me back. When she finally did, I asked, ‘Michelle, why didn’t you pick my call?’ She said, ‘Mommy, I’m traumatized. I remember you hit a bucket on my head one day.'”
Reflecting on her past as a single mother, Mercy acknowledged that her strict parenting was influenced by her circumstances. “I was a single mother, and I wanted the best for my daughter. But in hindsight, I realize that some of my methods were too harsh,” she admitted.
Mercy’s candid admission has sparked discussions on parenting styles and the importance of open communication between parents and their children.
