Osun Jailbreak: NCoS Launches Manhunt for Seven Escaped Inmates

The Nigerian Correctional Service has called on the public to assist in locating and recapturing seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, following a breach caused by heavy rainfall.

In a statement by NCoS spokesman, Umar Abubakar, reaveled that authorities have since launched a manhunt in recapturing the escaped inmates.

“The service is working closely with sister security agencies as well as community leaders to recapture the escapees and bring them back to custody”, the statement added

The Incident, which occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, saw a section of the facility’s old perimeter wall collapse under the force of the downpour, enabling seven inmates to escape custody.

In response, the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the jailbreak. The NCoS is currently collaborating with sister security agencies and local community leaders to track down the escapees and return them to custody.
