The National Examinations Council (NECO) has raised the alarm over a fraudulent Facebook account falsely bearing the identity of its registrar and chief executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi.
According to a statement issued in Abuja by NECO’s acting director of information and public relations, Mr. Azeez Sani, the council has completely disowned the fake social media profile and urged the public to exercise caution when interacting online.
“The Council wishes to draw the attention of the public to the existence of this fake Facebook account in order to avoid being swindled by the fraudsters,” Sani stated.
NECO emphasized that its registrar has no affiliation with the fake account and warned that no legitimate communication or offer from the council would originate from unofficial social media sources.
In a move to curb the spread of misinformation and protect public trust, Sani confirmed that security agencies have been notified and are taking appropriate action to track down the perpetrators.
NECO advised Nigerians to rely only on verified communication channels and to report any suspicious online activity linked to the examination body.
