In response to a recent tragedy involving Kano State indigenes, Dinatu Dama Maji, Executive Director of Kasham Girls, Women, Youth, and Community Development Initiative, has called on the Kano State Government to partner with indigenous airline Rano Air and Azman Air to ensure safer, more secure travel for state representatives on official duties.
“These airlines, being native to Kano, should be engaged through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to ensure safe travel arrangements for Kano State contingents,” Dinatu emphasized.
She stressed the need for the state to protect its citizens, particularly those representing the state at national engagements, and accord them necessary logistical support and safety guarantees.
Dinatu also called for the integration of travel and safety education across all sectors, especially in sports, and offered her organization’s support in developing and implementing a robust travel safety policy. She advocated for global best practices and tools to enhance athlete welfare and safety during training and travel.
Furthermore, Dinatu urged the government to provide full financial entitlements to affected families, enroll the children of the deceased in free education, and offer employment opportunities to the spouses of the deceased.
“This tragedy must not be swept under the carpet. It is the responsibility of the government and society at large to rally around these families and ensure they are supported and protected,” she said.
