A media analyst has know as @felixmichaelasam expressed concern over the public’s attention being diverted from the devastating floods in Niger State, which have resulted in over 200 deaths and displaced more than 3,000 people, to less critical issues.
The analyst questioned the priorities of Nigerians, stating, “200 people have lost their lives in Niger State flood so far, but VeryDarkMan is more important?”
The flooding, described as the worst in 60 years, occurred in Mokwa, Niger State, following heavy rainfall and the collapse of a nearby dam. The disaster led to the destruction of over 3,000 houses, two bridges, and two roads, leaving the town submerged and critical infrastructure damaged.
Local authorities have ended search efforts, believing no more survivors will be found. The Nigerian Red Cross and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) report that more than 3,000 people have been displaced.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended condolences and pledged immediate aid, including relief materials and temporary shelters, emphasizing that affected citizens would not be abandoned.
The media analyst’s remarks highlight the need for increased public awareness and attention to the ongoing crisis in Niger State, urging citizens and media outlets to prioritize coverage of such significant national tragedies.
