The State Epidemiologist in Benue state Dr Henry Ijabo said there are four confirmed cholera related deaths and 16 suspected cases of the disease.
He made the disclosure while briefing Journalists.
The health expert also urged the public to maintain cleanliness by frequent washing of hands and ensuring that the drinking water is properly treated.
According to him, the suspected cases were identified in Agatu, Ado, and Otukpo Local Government Areas.
“The four fatalities occurred during the ongoing investigation and the total number of confirmed deaths is yet to be determined.
The four deaths happened while we were still investigating.
We had one suspected case in Agatu LGA a few months ago, one in Otukpo LGA, and nine in Ado LGA”, he said.
The state Espidemiologist noted that the state Ministry of Health is working closely with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant stakeholders to address potential cholera incidents.
“We are providing health facilities with necessary drugs and treatment to manage any outbreaks, particularly in areas affected, especially in IDP camps around the state”.
