Two devastating road accidents in Lagos and Ogun states on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning claimed the lives of a commercial motorcyclist and a driver, leaving families and authorities in mourning.
Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority stated that
“The unfortunate incident, attributed to reckless driving by the Dangote truck driver, led to the immediate death of the motorcyclist at the scene.
“The collision, which occurred in the early hours, was a result of the truck driver losing control due to dangerous driving. The truck struck the motorcyclist, who had a female passenger on board”.
“Despite the intensity of the crash, LASTMA officials quickly intervened, rescuing the severely injured passenger and rushed her to the Apapa General Hospital for urgent medical attention.
“Both the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. In coordination with the Area B Police Station, LASTMA officers secured and removed the truck, handing it over to the police for further investigation,” Taofiq stated.
In the first incident, a commercial motorcyclist was killed in Apapa, Lagos, after a collision with a truck driven by a Dangote driver. The truck driver’s “dangerous driving” caused the crash, which also injured a female passenger.
In the second incident, a driver lost his life on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun state after crashing into a moving truck. Excessive speed and fatigue were cited as the likely causes.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Enforcement and Compliance Agency, warned drivers to exercise caution: “Motorists, commercial motorcyclists, and truck drivers must always be vigilant and avoid excessive speed and fatigue while driving.”
Authorities condoled with the families of the deceased and urged drivers to prioritize road safety.
