The Cross River State Government has formally received a license for the establishment of the Cross Rivers State University of Education and Entrepreneurship, located in Akampa, Cross Rivers State, marking a significant milestone in advancing higher education in Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, noted that the historic occasion reflects collective efforts to expand access to quality university education for all Nigerians.
He emphasized NUC’s dedication to ensuring the university adheres to the highest standards of academic excellence and quality assurance.
Prof. Ribadu commended the state government for its visionary leadership and dedication to educational advancement.
“I express confidence that the university will play a vital role in shaping the future of education and development in Nigeria.”
The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, represented by Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, disclosed that the university aims to provide an environment where students can convert their knowledge into useful tools for survival, rather than just focusing on academic grades.
The establishment of the university is expected to empower youths, develop the workforce, and promote knowledge-driven development in the state.
With this new addition, Cross River State now boasts seven notable universities, including the University of Calabar, set to celebrate its 50th anniversary this month.
