In a landmark move set to redefine child protection in Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched the National Plan of Action for Violence Against Children (2024–2030), a groundbreaking initiative aimed at ending the silent suffering of millions of Nigerian children. This powerful step signals a new era of hope, healing, and accountability for the nation’s most vulnerable citizens.
The League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) has commended President Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the rights and welfare of Nigerian children. With the unveiling of the National Plan of Action, the President has not only addressed a long-standing crisis but has also affirmed that the safety and dignity of children will no longer be negotiable.
The new Plan of Action lays out a comprehensive roadmap to eliminate all forms of violence against children by 2030. It prioritizes prevention, protection, and accountability, calling on every sector education, healthcare, justice, civil society, and communities to play a role in safeguarding childhood.
NILOWV hailed the initiative as a moment of national reckoning and renewal, highlighting that every data point on child abuse represents a real child whose life and future hang in the balance.
The organization also paid tribute to the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for her passionate advocacy and leadership in making this plan a reality.
NILOWV pledged its full support to the Plan’s implementation, vowing to take the message to every home, classroom, and community.
In a country where the scars of childhood trauma have long been hidden, this bold initiative marks the beginning of a healing journey one that ensures every Nigerian child is seen, heard, and safe.
