The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over his renewed presidential ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Wike criticized Amaechi during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Aguma Palace Road and the New Market Road in the Gwagwalada Area Council, where Vice President Kashim Shettima was also present.
Reacting to Amaechi’s recent declaration of interest to run for president in 2027 on a one-term, four-year plan, Wike said the former Minister of Transportation has no moral ground to seek public office again.
“Because you have left office, you are angry. You said Nigerians are angry. You want to come back to power; you won’t come back,” Wike said pointedly.
He challenged Amaechi’s performance during his time in government, questioning his contributions as a former minister and accusing him of hypocrisy for criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration after only six months in office.
“You never made angry Nigerians happy, but Tinubu stayed in office for six months and you started saying Nigerians are angry,” Wike noted.
The former Rivers governor also boasted about the defeat of Amaechi’s political allies in the last two presidential elections in Rivers State, suggesting that the former APC chieftain’s influence had waned.
“They said the coalition has started… When will you stop deceiving Nigerians? Somebody came into office six months then you started the coalition, but you had the opportunity to be Minister of Transportation for eight years. What did you do?” he added.
