The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted 277 cartons of counterfeit and unregistered Malamal Forte malaria drugs illegally imported from China.
The agency disclosed on its official website that the consignment, worth over ₦1.2 billion, was smuggled into the country by Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group and falsely declared as spare parts. It was traced to a warehouse in the Ilasa-Oshodi area of Lagos State.
According to NAFDAC, the fake medicines had been concealed in cartons labelled as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, described the seizure as part of ongoing efforts to rid the country of substandard medicines.
She said: “With the full support of the Presidency and Federal Ministry of Health, to eliminating counterfeit and substandard medicines from Nigeria.
“This seizure is part of NAFDAC’s sustained nationwide operation to protect public health and ensure only safe, quality medicines are available to Nigerians.”.
