Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced his defection to the Accord Party. The move follows his formal resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he cited a leadership crisis as the reason for leaving.
Unveiling his new political platform, Governor Adeleke said the Accord Party would serve as the vehicle for his re-election bid in 2026.
“Today, we unveiled the Accord Party, our new platform for the good people of Osun State. From Osun West to Osun East to Osun Central, this is our party, our new platform for victory come August next year,” he declared.
Adeleke explained that his decision came after weeks of consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders, adding that Osun residents are fully aware of the reasons behind the shift.
He noted that the Accord Party’s ideology aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens and workers’ welfare. The primary essence of a government is the welfare and well-being of the people,” he said.
The governor also welcomed the national leadership of the Accord Party into the state, saying the party is now positioned as a united front ahead of upcoming elections.
“Our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for future elections. Our party, Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state,” he added.
Adeleke had earlier communicated his resignation from the PDP in a letter addressed to the chairman of Sagba/Abogunde Ward 2, Ede. He attributed the decision to the ongoing crisis within the PDP’s national leadership.
“Due to the current crisis in the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, I hereby resign my membership of the party with immediate effect,” the letter reads.
He expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform that enabled his election as Senator for Osun West and later as Governor.
The resignation letter was acknowledged by Saka Kamoludeen Alamu, the Ward Chairman of Sagba/Abogunde Ward 2 in Ede North LGA.
