The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has expressed deep concern over reports of sexual assault and harassment of women during a local festival in Isoko North, Delta State.
The Ministry in a statement  described the incident as reflecting elements of ‘rape culture,’  which is deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
The Ministry emphasized that no cultural practice justifies sexual violence, while  citing the Constitution and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act. “Sexual assault is a serious criminal offence, and perpetrators will be held accountable,” it warned.
The Ministry commended the Delta State Police Command’s swift response and called for a transparent investigation.
“We  will provide support to victims, including psychosocial care and legal assistance. Culture should be a force for dignity, respect, and social cohesion, not a cover for violence.”
The Ministry called on the public to support ongoing  investigation.
