The Federal Government has condemned the abduction of students in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, describing the incidents as disturbing and unacceptable.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, on Tuesday.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said attacks on schools and students amount to attacks on the nation’s future, assuring that efforts were ongoing to secure the safe return of the abducted children.
“No child should face fear or violence in pursuit of education. Government remains committed to securing schools and protecting learners nationwide,” the minister said.
Alausa stated that the Federal Government was collaborating with security agencies to strengthen the protection of schools across the country.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to improving school safety through enhanced surveillance systems, emergency response mechanisms, and the implementation of the National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools.
The ministry urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue operations.
It also expressed solidarity with the affected families as well as the governments of Oyo and Borno states.
