Minister task citizens, CSOs on promoting transparency, accountability

Nigerian citizens have been urged to support government and Civil Society Organizations in promoting good governance , transparency and accountability. 

The Minister Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu,

made this known  while speaking with Journalists  at the Joinbodi Cohort exhibition organised by BudgIT and 24 Civil Society organizations in Abuja.

He urged all the citizens to always have a sense of responsibility in promoting good value system in the country.

“The country belongs to all of us, the  young, and the  old. We all need to have a sense of ownership that the country will turn out well. We need to start saying, this is my government, and this is my country. We should begin  to start seeking meaningful solution to the myriad of issues and challenges that we have in the country”, he said.

The Minister further noted that governance is a collaborative effort between the government and its citizens. 

“Citizens have the right to demand about the right governance both at the state and national level. We need to support and promote individual and organisations that enhance good governance”, he said.

The special Adviser to the President on policy Coordination, Hadiza Usman urged those in leadership positions to restore the hope of the populace by promoting good governance and accountability in different sector of the economy. 

She noted that leadership position should be an opportunity to serve the populace.

” Every hand must be on deck to restore confidence that exist between the electorate and the government. The citizen deserve better in terms of good governance, and the best time to actualize that is now”, she said.

The Special Adviser commended Budgit for being at the forefront for promoting accountability and governance in Nigeria. 

“BudgIT has remain a champion of accountability and good governance over the years.They are doing tremendous job for placing the issue of transparency at the front burner:, she added.

The Founder of Connected Development, Hamzat Lawal commended the organisers for the laudable work being done to promote good governance in the country.
