The Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Communication Commission, Dr Aminu Maida said the commission is committed to expanding broadband infrastructure and fostering innovation and sustainable growth in the Telecommunication sector.
He made the disclosure at a breakfast meeting with NITRA members in Abuja.
According to the EVC, the commission is
set to improve the quality of service for consumers across different parts of the country.
He further noted that the commission is
working on simplifying tariff rate among subscribers within the different network.
In the same vein, he urged subscribers to be mindful of the type of content they watch online so as to manage the data quantity.
“Sometimes rapid data consumption is due to high consumption of high definition video content and improved phones with faster network .
When you have a very fast network and the content is richer, you are going to end up so consuming more data , because you are now consuming high quality content “
“We want Journalists to raise more awareness on possible cause of rapid data consumption in the country, and desist from painting an ugly picture in the mind of Nigerians”, he said.
The Director of Enforcement Edosa Idehen, said the commission is ready to collaborate with Nigerians to put an end to issues of illegal registered sim.
“We will collaborate with all agencies that are involved in sim registration to ensure that we have incredible data base for Nigerians. This is very important in tracking all the numbers in our database”, he said.
He further noted that some subscribers are having issues with sim registration because they are using old sims which is known as legacy sim.
“The picture quality of legacy sim do not match the new definition in our sim registration, and this is why some of them are experiencing discrepancies.
” We are urging the legacy sim users to update their data at their convenience. We are promising them that their lines would not be barred by the regulators”, he said.
