About 15 people lost their lives in a brutal attack by suspected armed herders in Anyiin, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 .
The assault, which began around 6:32 pm, lasted for three hours, leaving many injured and others missing.
According to Joseph Anawah, a community leader, the attackers, numbering over 20 and heavily armed, overwhelmed the security operatives stationed in the town .
Anawah, a former aide to ex-Governor Gabriel Suswam, whose country home is in Anyiin, condemned the attack, stating,
“Fulani militia terrorists unleashed terror on Anyiin town Logo LGA of Benue State,leaving over 15 people dead and some with various degrees of injuries while others are missing.”
The victims of the attack are
Orihundu Ati, retired Primary School Supervisor
Zaki Mbatern, son of the Kindred Head of Mbawuave
Tordoo Suswam, son of a former Chief of Staff to the former Logo Local Government Area chairman
Zaki John Chembe, son of Mr. Uyange Chembe, younger brother to the late District Head of Ukemberagya
The attack is the second in October, prompting Anawah to call on the state government to collaborate with the Federal Government to provide maximum security in the flashpoints .
While the police spokesperson, Catherine Anene, had not received the report, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and External Affairs, Col. Alex Igbaya (retd.), confirmed the incident, stating, “Security people already deployed to the area. Military men are there.”
