In a devastating turn of events, a young artisan named Timehin, only 26, lost his life during a disrupted cult initiation ceremony in the Awoyaya area of Eti-Osa Local Government.
Timehin was led into a secluded bush area for an initiation into a cult group. However, the ceremony was violently interrupted when suspected members of a rival cult stormed the scene, opening fire. While many fled, Timehin was unable to escape and was fatally shot.
A family member, speaking on condition of anonymity, recounted the grim discovery: “We were alerted the next day about a lifeless body near the UBA bus stop. To our shock, it was Timehin. We rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.”
Community sources revealed that Timehin sustained gunshot wounds to his neck and hand. The incident has left residents in fear, highlighting the escalating threat of cult activities in the region.
Law enforcement agencies have been urged to intensify efforts in curbing the spread of cultism, especially among the youth. Community leaders and stakeholders emphasize the need for grassroots sensitization and youth engagement programs to deter young individuals from joining such groups.
As investigations into Timehin’s death continue, residents of Awoyaya and neighboring areas remain on edge, calling for increased security measures and community vigilance to prevent further tragedies.
