Karolina Krzyzak, 27, from Warsaw, Poland,a former Leeds University student has died in Bali after reportedly starving herself while following a strict fruit-only diet

She had been adhering to an extreme “fruitarian” lifestyle consisting solely of raw fruit. She was found dead in her hotel room at the Sumberkima Hill resort, weighing just 3.5 stone. Authorities confirmed that she died from severe malnutrition.

Ms Krzyzak, who had struggled with anorexia for many years, had travelled to Bali seeking a community of like-minded wellness enthusiasts. However, her condition deteriorated rapidly after arriving on the island.

Hotel staff said she appeared “extremely emaciated” and requested that only fruit be brought to her room. On one occasion, she became so weak that staff had to assist her back to her accommodation. Despite repeated pleas for her to seek medical help, she refused treatment.

Three days after checking in, hotel employees discovered her body after being alerted by a concerned friend who had been unable to reach her.

Friends and relatives said Ms Krzyzak’s interest in yoga and veganism began while studying in the UK but gradually developed into a more restrictive “fruitarian” diet. By the time she travelled to Bali, her health had seriously declined. Reports indicate she was suffering from osteoporosis and a severe protein deficiency.

Her family had urged her to abandon the extreme diet and seek medical care, but she declined. Authorities in Bali confirmed that her death was caused by complications arising from prolonged malnutrition.
