The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
said eight Corp members kidnapped in Zamfara state for more than a year has regained their freedom.
The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier Gen Yushau Ahmed stated this while briefing Journalists in Abuja.
According to the DG, the eight prospective corps members were kidnapped while travelling from Uyp, Akwa Ibom State on August 17th 2023.
” The last abducted prospective corps member, Solomon Bassey was rescued on August 22, 2024.The Corp members were kidnapped by bandits along Zamfara-Sokoto highway on their way to NYSC orientation camp.”
The DG added that the first prospective Corp members was rescued on 30th of August 2023.
The Director General commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Director General of Department of State Services (DSS), for their support and professional guidance.
He further added that the leader of the kidnapper has been killed, but no arrest has been made.
One of the rescued Corp members Esudu Emmanuel Emmanuel while speaking to Journalists said the experience is quite traumatic.
He commended the NYSC and the security personnel’s for coming to their rescue.
Another female Corp member who was rescued, Victoria Udoka applauded the NYSC DG and every Nigerian for coming to their rescue.
