The Federal Government has emphasized the critical role of indigenous oil service providers in driving the growth of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, with a renewed focus on maximizing local content and creating economic opportunities.
Speaking during an inspection of facilities at Geoplex Oilfield Services and WCS in Port Harcourt, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships with local firms to achieve production targets.
Lokpobiri commended Geoplex for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and adherence to global standards, positioning the company to rival international oil service providers.
The minister noted that the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, is implementing deliberate strategies to create a conducive environment for indigenous firms, thereby boosting their competitiveness.
He said, “Our drive to increase production will be a mirage if we do not have strong collaboration with oil service providers, especially indigenous ones.
“However, with the renewed strategies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, we are taking deliberate steps to ensure that these collaborations thrive.
“From my observations during the inspection, it is evident that Geoplex is fortified to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry at par with international service providers. Their dedication is truly commendable,”
Lokpobiri stressed the importance of sustained investments and supportive policies to empower local service providers, which are vital to achieving the administration’s energy security and sustainability goals. He further lauded Geoplex’s leadership, stating that such firms exemplify the potential for indigenous businesses to transform the industry.
“The work being done here is exemplary. Companies like Geoplex are proving that Indigenous firms can deliver world-class services. With such dedication, we are confident that the future of Nigeria’s oil sector is in good hands.
“The Federal Government’s renewed focus on indigenous oil service providers aligns with its broader goal of maximizing local content in the sector, creating jobs, and boosting economic growth. With ongoing initiatives to provide a supportive environment, the administration seeks to unlock the full potential of local firms while ensuring Nigeria meets its production targets.
