Embattled Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has voluntarily surrendered himself to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba, further complicating his legal troubles with the Ogun State Police Command.
Portable’s decision to turn himself in comes after weeks of evading arrest following an alleged assault on government officials in Ogun State. The singer, who had previously claimed to be receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, is now set to be transferred to Ogun State, where he remains a wanted man.
The controversy began when officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Developmen TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi were allegedly attacked during an enforcement exercise in Ota. While nine of Portable’s associates were arrested, the singer reportedly fled, prompting the police to declare him wanted.
Despite multiple invitations from the Ogun State Police Command, Portable failed to appear for questioning, instead releasing a video where he described himself as a “madman” undergoing psychiatric treatment. However, the police dismissed his claims, insisting that he must submit himself for investigation.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed Portable’s surrender, with its spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, stating that the Ogun State Police Command had been contacted to take custody of the singer. With his legal troubles now intensifying, all eyes are on the Ogun State authorities to determine the next steps in Portable’s case.
