The Lagos State Police Command has announced that the case of Adedamola Ogunbode, a Lagos State University graduate who went missing on January 16, 2025, has been reclassified as a suspected murder investigation.
The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement clarifying that the case was initially treated as a missing person’s report.
Ogunbode, a LASU Political Science Education graduate, went missing on January 16, 2025, amid rumors that a mutilated body discovered may be his.
The command have arrested three suspects and are actively searching for five more individuals connected to Ogunbode’s murder.
Ogunbode, LASU Political Science Education graduate, had been missing since January 16, 2025, amid speculation that his mutilated body had been found.
Those arrested include Whepetoji Sunday, a pastor accused of receiving N70,000 from the victim’s account, and Sheriff Adebayo, a church member who allegedly received N300,000.
Omolara Ajisomo was also taken into custody for reportedly aiding her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, in fleeing to Cotonou, Benin Republic, after they each allegedly received N300,000 from the victim’s account.
Hundeyin said: “Significant progress has been made in the investigation, and all efforts are being directed towards locating the body of the deceased and determining the exact cause of death,” he added.
“The command is fully committed to resolving the matter and bringing the perpetrators to justice,” he said.
Addressing students’ concerns, he revealed that Jimoh had instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for a more comprehensive investigation.
‘‘All aspects of the case will be thoroughly examined, and the concerns of the students will be looked into.
“There is no political interference in this investigation, and it will proceed unhindered and impartially, in line with the principles of justice and fairness.”
Hundeyin reaffirmed that the Commissioner of Police had emphasized a firm commitment to apprehending and prosecuting everyone involved, ensuring that no effort would be spared in the process.
The statement also noted that the police findings would be disclosed to the public in the pursuit of justice.
