In a strong push to ease financial burdens and boost educational access, the Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences has encouraged more students to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), following the successful disbursement of loans to 75 of its students.
The provost of the college, Gbonjubola Owolabi, revealed this during a management meeting at the college’s Eleyele campus in Ibadan on Friday. According to her, 78 students initially applied for the NELFUND loan, with 75 receiving full approval and funding covering approximately 96% of the applicants.
“Our college is grateful to NELFUND for this support to our students. The College also congratulates these 75 students.” she said.
Owolabi praised the federal government’s initiative, calling it a “strategic effort” that allows financially challenged students to continue their studies without interruption. She added that the college would soon hold a follow-up meeting with the beneficiaries for documentation and record-keeping ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Provost also used the opportunity to call on other students who have not yet applied to take advantage of the scheme. “NELFUND has paid the full fees of about 96% of the students who applied for the loan. This is impressive,” she stated.
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, also issued a statement on the development, underscoring the state government’s support for policies that prioritize education and youth empowerment.
With NELFUND stepping in to bridge financial gaps, the college hopes more students will be empowered to pursue their studies with fewer obstacles.
