In a significant political development, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and several prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made following a high-level meeting at the Government House in Asaba, where senior APC officials welcomed the new members. This move is seen as a major realignment in Delta State’s political landscape, potentially influencing the dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by the National Vice-Chairman, South-South
Chief Victor Giadom,of the APC, expressed enthusiasm about the defections, stating
“Their decision to collapse the Delta PDP structure into our party is an endorsement of the visionary leadership and transformational economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which now resonate across the South-South region.”
Giadom further emphasized the APC’s commitment to collaborating with the new members to strengthen the party’s presence in the region
“The South-South zonal leadership of our great party looks forward to working with our new members to position the APC for an overwhelming victory in the 2027 general elections.”
Governor Oborevwori’s defection follows months of speculation and internal disputes within the Delta PDP.
Recall :In January, he dismissed rumors of leaving the PDP, reaffirming his loyalty to the party. However, recent developments, including the defection of over 5,000 PDP members to the APC, have reshaped the state’s political dynamics.
