As the Master of Liturgical Celebrations read the “Rogito” and placed it inside, close family members joined the Vatican’s liturgical officers in this act prescribed by the Ordo Exsequiarum Romani Pontificis. The ceremony began at 8 p.m. and concluded an hour later. Tonight, the Cardinal Camerlengo will keep a continuous prayerful vigil by the late pontiff’s side until preparations for tomorrow morning’s Requiem Mass commence.
