Chief Edet Isong, a prominent political figure in Akwa Ibom State, has publicly declared unwavering support for Governor Umo Eno, stating his readiness to follow the governor to the All Progressives Congress (APC) if such a move materializes.
In a statement released on May 29, 2025, Chief Isong emphasized that his political allegiance is rooted in Governor Eno’s leadership and vision for Akwa Ibom State, rather than party affiliation.
He stated that “I joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only a few months ago because of Governor Umo Eno. I believed then as I still do now in his leadership, his vision for Akwa Ibom State, and his genuine commitment to the people”.
He further stated his loyalty is not tied to any political party
“My loyalty has always been to his person and to the values he upholds, not to any particular political party”,He stated .
Chief Isong’s declaration comes amid speculations about Governor Eno’s potential move to the APC. While Governor Eno has reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, he has also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, highlighting a collaborative approach to governance.
Chief Isong, who previously returned to the PDP citing Governor Eno’s developmental strides, reiterated his support for the governor’s initiatives, including transformative projects in Oron and the Nsit Atai-Okobo Road.
“If Governor Umo Eno transitions to the APC as a platform to continue delivering purposeful governance, I will follow him there, in full support of his mission.”
“This is not about politics; it is about progress, principle, and the future of Akwa Ibom State.”he stated .
