Media is key to Nigeria’s Digital Transformation – NIGCOMSAT boss

In a bold move to bridge the technology gap, the Managing Director/CEO of NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, has called on media practitioners  to take center stage in demystifying satellite and ICT stories for Nigerians.
Speaking at a media training session in Abuja, Egerton-Idehen emphasized that the future of Nigeria’s digital transformation hinges on effective communication between journalists and citizens.
According to the CEO, ICT drives communication, education, healthcare, commerce, and governance, it is the nervous system of our society
“Satellites and ICT are no longer abstract concepts; they are  part of our daily lives.
 They power internet in rural villages, predict the weather, support disaster response, and strengthen national security.”
Egerton-Idehen further gave assurance that  NIGCOMSAT is committed to empowering the media with knowledge and resources that will make their report effective.
‘We know that  informed journalism leads to informed citizens and a stronger digital economy.”
The Technical Assistant to the DG, Engr. Tope Yosoof, highlighted the role of satellite technology in local development, particularly in extending internet connectivity to underserved communities.
 “We now have  improved access to essential services like financial transaction and passport services, we have also reduced the need for physical travel,” he explained. “
He noted that satellite technology promotes local economic activity, job creation, and increased participation in trade.
In the same vein, AGM Broadband, Engr. Sam Ajakaiye, disclosed that investment in space research will bring about national development.
“If we do not  invest in space research, Nigeria risk being left behind in the global digital landscape. The best time to do so is now.
The media training brought together journalists, and  editors to deepen their understanding of satellites, broadband infrastructure, and Nigeria’s digital future.
