The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has demanded the immediate dismissal and prosecution of Prof. Joash Amupitan, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, citing compromised electoral integrity as the reason. The council maintains that any election held under such conditions is inherently flawed and lacks credibility.
The President of the council, Sheikh Dr Bashir Aliyu Umar, OON, made the demand on Wednesday in Abuja.
Dr Aliyu made the disclosure at the council’s ongoing annual pre-Ramadan lecture and general assembly.
The council is demanding the immediate removal and prosecution of the INEC chairman.
“We declare that no election conducted under a cloud of compromised integrity can be recognised as credible”.
The event was attended by Islamic scholars and delegates from across the country.
