The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) has confirmed that its second Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference will take place on May 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The conference will examine the rising threat of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), a modern form of information warfare that can undermine international relations and disrupt trade and investment activities.
Commenting on the event, DICAN Chairman Idehai Frederick said the summit is designed to “promote collaborative truth as a way to protect global security and economic stability.”
He added, “A secure information environment is essential for strong trade and investment. Misinformation can scare away foreign investors and destabilize local markets.”
The gathering will unite diplomats, intelligence officials, media practitioners, and business leaders to enhance cross-sector collaboration.
Organizers aim to establish international guidelines for countering state-sponsored disinformation, improve detection of hybrid threats, and ensure accurate reporting to safeguard economic and national interests.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and DICAN Grand Patron, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will deliver the keynote address.
The conference will also feature the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, alongside security experts, regulators, and private sector stakeholders.
This year’s summit builds on the success of DICAN’s inaugural conference in July 2025, which attracted over 60 diplomatic missions, civil society organizations, and academic institutions.
By bringing together leaders across diplomacy, intelligence, media, and commerce, DICAN aims to reinforce strategies against the misuse of information and bolster Nigeria’s reputation as a secure and attractive destination for investment.
