Nigeria, Sweden Deepen Ties On Trade, Technology, and Regional Stability

Nigeria and Sweden have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a renewed focus on trade, innovation, and regional cooperation following a high-level meeting in Abuja.

The talks were held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and Sweden’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Anna Westerholm, in Abuja.

Tuggar reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to regional integration and stability, with the optimism in sustaining high-level engagements, ahead of an expected visit by Sweden’s State Secretary to Nigeria next week.

Ambassador Westerholm commended Nigeria’s hospitality since assuming office and expressed Sweden’s readiness to deepen engagement across key sectors, citing strong goodwill and growing diplomatic ties.

She identified trade, investment, and partnerships as priority areas, highlighting Sweden’s interest in supporting Nigeria’s green and digital transition, especially in technology, innovation, and digital infrastructure.

The Swedish envoy also pointed to opportunities in energy, as well as Nigeria’s thriving creative industry, noting the global appeal of Afrobeats and prospects for collaboration in music production and the wider creative economy.

On regional and global issues, both countries reaffirmed their alignment on international cooperation, with Sweden commending Nigeria’s role in promoting stability in West Africa, particularly within ECOWAS and ongoing developments in the Sahel.
