Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has responded to a viral video showing Funke Akindele appearing to ignore a greeting from Toyin Abraham at a recent movie premiere.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, captured Abraham approaching Akindele at the event, with many viewers alleging that the greeting was not acknowledged, sparking speculation of renewed tension between the two actresses.
In a statement shared on her social media page, Ojo addressed the controversy and defended her role in previous efforts to reconcile both parties. She said she had been subjected to criticism and insults over the situation, prompting her to “set the record straight.”
Ojo explained that she has maintained a long-standing relationship with Akindele, noting that although they had disagreements in the past, they later resolved their issues. She admitted that publicly criticising Akindele over Abraham’s movie at one point was a mistake.
“I should have handled it better,” she said, adding that both she and Akindele eventually reconciled and moved forward.
The actress also revealed that she had made attempts to mediate between Akindele and Abraham, including pleading with both parties to maintain peace. According to her, the actresses had agreed to avoid addressing disagreements publicly and instead resolve issues privately.
However, Ojo said tensions resurfaced in December after Abraham raised concerns about her film’s performance in cinemas, alleging possible sabotage. This led to speculation among fans, with some pointing fingers at Akindele, reigniting the feud.
She further disclosed that Abraham was initially expected to feature in her upcoming project, The Return of Arinzo, but withdrew at the last minute due to exhaustion and travel commitments, requiring adjustments to the production.
Despite the developments, Ojo emphasised that she remains on good terms with both actresses and urged the public to respect their space.
“The sky is big enough for all,” she said, expressing hope that both parties would resolve their differences when ready.
She added that The Return of Arinzo is scheduled for nationwide cinema release on April 3.
