President Bola Tinubu has condemned recent attacks by gunmen in Plateau State and Kaduna State, directing security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible.
The attacks occurred in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, Plateau State, and in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where several people were killed and others abducted, including wedding guests.
In a statement issued Tuesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the president described the incidents as “barbaric” and vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens… is a heartless coward,” Tinubu said, warning that such attacks on vulnerable communities could trigger reprisals and further violence.
The president also cautioned against misinformation, particularly narratives suggesting the attacks were religiously motivated, noting that such claims could inflame tensions.
Tinubu said security agencies have been directed to act on intelligence to prevent further incidents and to intensify operations to rescue abducted victims. He called for the immediate rescue of those still held captive in Kahir village, while confirming that two victims in Kaduna had been freed.
He emphasised the need for public cooperation with security directives, including evacuation and relocation measures where necessary, to help safeguard lives and property.
The president commended Caleb Mutfwang and Uba Sani for their response efforts, pledging federal support to both states.
Tinubu also expressed condolences to families of the victims and said the government is working to strengthen security capacity through the acquisition of advanced equipment to track and combat criminal activity.
