The Edo State Police Command has announced a statewide restriction of movement from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, as part of security measures for the Local Government Council Elections.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem.
According to the command, the restriction is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly and secure electoral process. It said the measure was adopted in collaboration with other security agencies to protect voters, electoral officials and sensitive materials, while preventing any breakdown of law and order.
The police stated that all vehicular and human movement across the state would be prohibited during the restriction period, except for officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accredited election observers, accredited media personnel, security agencies, emergency responders and other essential service providers on election duty.
Residents were urged to comply with the directive, warning that anyone found violating the restriction or engaging in activities capable of disrupting the elections would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, assured residents that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to safeguard the election.
He urged eligible voters to come out peacefully to exercise their civic responsibility in line with the guidelines issued by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, reaffirming the command’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, peaceful and credible electoral process.
