The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has reaffirmed the credibility of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, urging candidates, parents and the public to disregard unverified claims circulating on social media.
The Council made the clarification in a statement issued on Thursday following what it described as a recent wave of public commentary, particularly from content creators and social media commentators, questioning the accuracy and credibility of the recently released results.
WAEC said the 2026 WASSCE was conducted in line with its established procedures and relevant educational policies, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
The examination body acknowledged the concerns surrounding examination results, particularly among candidates awaiting admission into the next stage of their education, but urged the public to exercise caution before accepting unverified claims.
The Council said the results were subjected to multiple quality-control measures, including marking, moderation and auditing.
“Every candidate’s script undergoes a multi-tiered system of marking, moderation, and auditing,” WAEC said, adding that the processes are guided by standardised marking schemes and supervised by vetted subject experts.
The examination body also said it maintains formal channels through which candidates, parents, schools and other stakeholders can raise queries or seek clarification on examination results.
“WAEC maintains clear procedures for addressing queries or grievances,” the Council said, advising concerned members of the public to contact its offices nationwide or use its verified communication channels.
WAEC urged the public to refrain from relying on social media speculation, stressing that concerns about the results should be directed to the Council for proper clarification.
The Council reiterated its “unwavering commitment to preserving the integrity of its assessment processes and safeguarding the interests of every candidate.”
