As tongues continue to wage regarding the back door unprofessional manipulation some enemies of the FCT Minister are trying to do regarding the filling of the position of the Director of FCT treasury,
after the retirement of its Director who clocked sixty years.
The Arewa Renaissance initiative has strongly advised and called on Nyesom Wike, not to relax and allow his name to be taken to the mud, as plans have already been concluded to impose an unprofessional person who neither possesses the prerequisite Chartered Accountancy certification nor the Association of national accountants of Nigeria members and eligibility which are criteria for holding such positions related to finances in any government setup.
Usman Babangida, head of the group’s financial affairs, emphasised that credible intelligence available to the group points to the angle that the recently distributed circular from the office of the secretary to the government of the federation, which instructed Directors on tenure appointment, particularly in parastatals, and extra Ministerial department, should proceed on retirement and not career officers on career progression.
“The case of the FCT treasury department differs as the issue involved here is career progression, and not tenure appointment. The FCT Minister must urgently halt any decision made to impose an administration staff to head the FCT treasury, which is inimical to the prudent and professional management of the finances of the FCT.
” It has never happened before and should not be allowed to happen as it is capable of creating rancour. The anointed administration staff did not in any way change cadre from admin to finance officer, thereby showing the lack of qualification to head such a plum job.
“Besides, the office of Director of Finance and Administration has been separated from office of Director Administration and finance, thereby making administration to be taken away from finance.
“We also want to call on the secretary to the government of the Federation George Akume to take this seriously, as his circular contents are being abused.
” It’s usage gives credence to illegality, unprofessional method and mediocrity. If Wike allows this to happen, then his powers as the FCT number one man has been abused and subdued.
As such, he must take control and address the matter accordingly by setting standards. The finances of the entire FCT administration cannot be entrusted in the hands of a non professional, as it can spell doom.
“None professional has ever become the accountant general of a state, nor the accountant general of the federation as such positions are headed, by either chartered accountants or ANAN members.
” The FCT administration which comprises of different agencies and departments is too sensitive to be headed by a non professional administrative staff”, he said.
