The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued a final warning to Arise Television, alleging violations of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
The Commisison, in a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of Arise Global Limited, the Director-General Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, expressed concern over the prevalence of incendiary remarks on Arise News.
He said the letter is Titled “Preponderance of Derogatory and Incendiary Remarks: Final Warning”.
” The letter emphasized the broadcaster’s responsibility to manage the conduct of guests on their platform. Specific incidents cited in the letter included derogatory remarks made by Dele Farotimi against various branches of government and the President during the program “The Morning Show” on October 5.”
Additionally, he added that Kenneth Okonkwo’s use of derogatory language during the program “Newsday” on October 6 was also observed.
Ilelah also highlighted the need for a delay mechanism, as outlined in the code, to prevent undesirable content from airing.
” He referenced relevant sections of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, including guidelines on presenter neutrality, accuracy of information, avoidance of bias, and fair treatment of individuals and organizations”, he said.
The letter concluded with a stern warning that Arise TV would be held accountable for any future violations on their platform, with sanctions applied in accordance with the law.
