All the hues and Haas concerning the Senate Presidency and the deputy have been put to rest, with the emergence of Akwa Ibom-born Senator God’s will Akpabio and Kano’s state-born Jibril Barau as SP and DSP respectively.
The gains that are to be recorded exceed the disadvantages.
Talk of experience,ranking and charisma,they all have it. Starting from Senator Jibril Barau, who was once a house of representative member, achieved a lot, on raising of motions, bills and deliberations on the welfare of his people which got him elevated to Senate.
His chairmanship of the Senate Apropriation committee saw alot of checkmating of financial excesses, periodical questioning of agencies and ministries on budgetary spendings and others.
His winning of the senate seat in the 2023 elections was as a result of his positive antecedents.
It could be recalled that NNPP won two of the three Kano senatorial seats. Only Senator Barau clinched victory.
As he emerged Deputy Senate President, the Northwest, has once again produced a competent,foresighted and humane representative who is capable of attracting infrastructural facelift, employment, security, entrepreneurship, youth and women empowerment.
He is a force to reckon with on possible interaction with elders of the North,traditional rulers and elderstatesman on how to curb insurgency,armed banditry and poverty.
Coming to Godswill Akpabio, his stewardship as Akwa Ibom state Commissioner for Local government under Victor Attah recorded tremendous success which paved way for him to be given the Governorship ticket to succeed Victor Attah.
His eight years as Governor witnessed the building of roads, Airport, Stadium, Educational scholarships, training, IT,empowerment and healthcare.
After his sojourn as Governor, he got elected as a Senator and served as Senate minority whip before decamping to APC and eventual appointment as Minister of Niger Delta affairs.
With this election as senate President, Nigerians expect alot from his wealth of experience having held this juicy positions and achieved results.
The senate will experience stability and all inclusiveness. As they are set to steer the ship of the 10th senate,it is our hope that distinguished Senators will lend them support inorder to achieve success inthe 10th Senate.
