The speculations going on concerning the 2023 Accord party Gubernatorial candidate in Oyo state, Adebayo Adelabu Penkelemesi, has been strongly opposed and described as an affront and creation of discord amongst loyal APC card-carrying members in the state who sacrificed their moral and financial resources to ensure victory for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
The spokesperson of the restoration group Olatunbodun Sikiru Omolewa emphasised that it is a well-known fact that Adelabu decamped from APC and contested under the accord party against the APC governorship candidate which is a clear anti-party activity.
“For the Tinubu administration to now succumb to the antics of some external forces who are friends to Adelabu is degrading and shows lacking gratitude to the efforts of the card-carrying members of APC in the state.”
In the same vein, an Ibadan indigene Mr Jelili Olaoye said the present move which is well known to nominate Adelabu courtesy of his connection with Lagos state Governor who was his colleague in the bank, and also an old friend will spell doom for the party in the state, it may cause friction and discourage membership. “We are therefore urging Mr President, Senate President and the entire party not to accept the candidature of Adebayo Adelabu in the interest of APC at the national level and Oyo state in particular. It will make us a laughing stock before the opposition that with all the competent, reputable and qualified members, only an outsider from the opposition party is considered a Ministerial nominee.
“Mr President should immediately call the Lagos State Governor, who is Adelabu’s friend and fronting him to order and withdraw his candidature with immediate effect in the interest of peace”, he said.
