ASUU has called off its two-week warning strike after constructive talks with the federal government and key stakeholders. This decision was announced by ASUU President, Professor Chris Piwuna, in Abuja.
The union’s National Executive Council made this decision following a series of meetings with government representatives and other stakeholders, including the Senate, which led to renewed commitments to resolve the issues at hand.
He added that the union is giving the government one month to finalize the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement and resolve the other lingering issues.
“We resolved to suspend the warning strike in appreciation of the widespread support from Nigerians. We acknowledge the efforts of those who helped mediate during the dispute.’
‘”The decision to suspend the strike was made out of respect for students, parents, the media, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and other concerned Nigerians who have actively worked to resolve the impasse over the past 10 days”, he said .
