Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying that two years after assuming office, there are still no visible signs that the government is capable of tackling the worsening hunger facing Nigerians.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Paul Ibe, on Monday, Atiku said whatever reforms the government claims to be pursuing, the reality remains that food insecurity has become a daily occurrence across the country.
“There is no government worth its salt that does not place priority on the welfare and security of the people,” Atiku stated, adding that reforms are meant to serve citizens, not burden them.
He warned that the government’s “ill-advised policies” are pushing millions into deeper poverty, stressing that the poor are increasingly dying of hunger while others live at the mercy of harsh economic realities.
According to him, the situation is fueling a rise in social vices such as fraud, terrorism, kidnapping, cultism, drug abuse, and ritual killings.
Atiku maintained that the government must urgently give its economic reforms a human face to stem the worsening hardship confronting Nigerians.
