Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government to urgently reinforce security nationwide following the abduction of at least 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in Kebbi State.
The attack occurred on Sunday night when armed men stormed the school in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, killing the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, before whisking away several students.
In a statement released on his verified Facebook page, Atiku described the incident as tragic and deeply alarming.
“I am devastated by the news of the tragic attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, which claimed the life of the Vice-Principal and led to the abduction of innocent students,” he wrote.
Atiku urged the Federal Government to “urgently review and strengthen its security architecture, deploy adequate personnel across vulnerable communities, and intensify intelligence-led operations,” stressing that Nigerians deserve protection, dignity, and peace.
The former Vice President also condemned the killing of an APC chieftain, Umar Moriki, and the recent mass abductions in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State, where entire families including women and children were taken by bandits.
He noted that similar patterns of violence continue to plague Plateau, Benue, and several other states, adding that residents in Shanono LGA of Kano have begun fleeing their homes out of fear.
“These acts of barbarity have no place in a civilized society,” Atiku said, warning that insecurity in the country has reached “intolerable levels” and requires urgent, comprehensive action.
