Borno Police Re-Arrest Fugitive Convict Kyari Kur After Devastating Flood

The Borno State Police Command has successfully re-arrested 28-year-old Kyari Kur, also known as Henry, who escaped from the Medium Security Custodian Centre in Maiduguri during the devastating flood in September 2024 ¹. Kur was serving time for criminal conspiracy and theft when the flood collapsed the facility’s fence, allowing him to break free.

According to ASP Nahum Daso, the state Police Public Relations Officer, “Kyari Kur was serving a jail term… Unfortunately, he escaped due to the devastating flood incident in September 2024, which collapsed the fence.”

Kur’s recapture was made possible by a tip from the public. On October 10, 2024, police surveillance at Gubio divisional headquarters received information that Kur was spotted in Gubio town. The police swiftly responded and apprehended Kur.

He also emphasized that the Borno State Police Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and justice, appreciating the public’s cooperation and urging them to continue providing timely information.

This re-arrest is part of the ongoing efforts to recapture the 281 inmates who escaped during the flood . It was further disclosed that seven inmates have been recaptured, and the authorities are working to ensure that the remaining fugitives are brought to justice.
